Math Strategies that Work
In the age of STEM, the importance of mathematics continues to increase. As a math instructor, I have enjoyed the challenge of engaging students not only in mathematics, but how they learn mathematics. My students challenged themselves and each other to use these strategies throughout the course. Integrating these strategies into your daily classroom can help to create a collaborative environment that inspires discussion about math and, more importantly, how to learn math. These strategies can be woven into your class through small changes in processes, questioning, or discussion without changing your teaching style or getting in the way of curriculum.
This engaging professional development will take students and/or teachers through the phases of a math course, including enrolling and preparing for class, doing homework, studying for a test, taking a test, and learning from the results. Clearly identified strategies that students can use and teachers can integrate into their teaching are presented.
